SolidWorks 2009: SpeedPak
Have you ever spent an excessive amount of time completing a task when working with large assemblies? Now, in SolidWorks 2009, we have a revolutionary new tool to help deal with this issue.
Speed Pack optimized the working performance of
SolidWorks when dealing with large assemblies. It allows the user
to specify what information from the assemble should be loaded, instead
of loading every component and feature by default.

When should you use SpeedPak?
You can use SpeedPak to facilitate file sharing. The
SpeedPak information is saved entirely within the assembly file.
Therefore, when sharing an assembly, you can send just the assembly
file. You do not need to include component files.
Also, SpeedPak can be used when you want to insert a complex large
assembly into a higher-level assembly but need to mate and dimension
only to a few items in the higher assembly.
The basic steps to accomplish the above:
1. Open the Upper Assembly
2. Open the Subassembly
3. Switch to the Configuration Tab
4. Right Click on the Configuration you want to add a SpeedPak to
5. Select Add SpeedPak
6. Choose the faces you want referenced in the upper assembly
7. Click ok. Notice when hovering over parts that only the faces
appear.
8. Switch to the Upper Assembly
9. Insert the Subassembly
10. Mate the component using the SpeedPak faces
11. Save the assembly
12. Switch the configurations back to the Simple config.
