» Taming Rotation In SolidWorks (part I)
Tired of your SolidWorks model flying off the screen when rotating while zoomed in on a small detail? Did you know that there are multiple rotation options in SolidWorks? Did you know that you could rotate about the center of the screen instead of the center of the SolidWorks model?
- Select the vertex, edge, or face of the item that you wish to keep on screen.
- Use the zoom to selection command (SolidWorks will "zoom fit" to the selected item)
- Click on the pull down menu VIEW --> MODIFY --> ROTATE ABOUT SCREEN CENTER
- Rotating the model as you normally would will keep that particular detail on the screen
Nice thing about this trick is that you only have to do the above steps once - all subsequent rotates will keep details on the screen by - selecting the entity you want to keep on screen & clicking ZOOM TO SELECTION before rotating.
