(PRWEB) January 10, 2006 -- The Spaghetti Book Club, a provider of an online literacy program, has named Michael Weinstein as president and COO. Weinstein is responsible for the executive management and day-to-day operations, including the strategic and operational leadership of marketing, sales and technology.

Most recently, Weinstein was the founder and CEO of Primary Systems, Inc., an executive business and technology consulting firm. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Technology and Senior Programmer for a software development firm.

Weinstein began his career as the Director of the Children's After School Computer Program at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Long Island, N.Y. He is a professional jazz pianist, an instructor in the World Tae Kwon Do Association and is on advisory boards of several early-stage high-tech companies. Weinstein has a bachelor's degree in computer science, a master's degree in management engineering and is currently pursuing an MBA in technology management.

The Spaghetti Book Club literacy program is designed to help students meet reading and writing standards by teaching them how to write book reviews that are published on the web. The Spaghetti Book Club encourages students of all ages and reading levels to think critically about literature while providing them with the unique opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions for a worldwide audience.

The program is sold to schools, after school programs and libraries and includes a curriculum of easy-to-follow lesson plans and web publishing services. The Spaghetti Book Club web site is the largest web site of book reviews written and illustrated by kids for kids.

According to feedback from educators who have implemented the program, students have become more interested in and excited about reading, writing and discussing literature. Educators believe that the Spaghetti Book Club can improve grades, class participation and standardized test scores.

Julie Rosemarin was an educator for seven years before founding the Spaghetti Book Club, including five years as a kindergarten and first grade teacher and two years as a consultant to the New York City public schools. She has extensive training in constructivist pedagogy and is an experienced curriculum developer.

Rosemarin was on the advisory board of the Technology and Learning Center @ the Armory, a federally-funded community technology center in Washington Heights, New York City. Rosemarin has a master's degree in early childhood education from Bank Street College of Education.
