Shermco Participates in Electrical Safety Discussions at VPPPA Conference
(PRWEB) July 26, 2006 -- Jim White, training director for Shermco Industries, will discuss electrical safety issues, as well as regulatory and 70E requirements, during a panel discussion and workshop presentation at the 22nd Annual National Voluntary Protection Programs Participants Association (VPPPA) Conference on August 28-31, 2006, in Orlando, Fla. Shermco Industries is a leading provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system testing, commissioning, repair, maintenance and training.
During his workshop on August 29, White, a member of the NFPA 70E Committee, “Standard for Electrical Safety in Employee Workplaces,” will present his paper about the safety requirements for working on or near live electrical parts.
“OSHA uses broad, regulatory language that is sometimes not clear in its meaning. It is important that electrical workers, and their supervisors understand how the NFPA 70E and the OSHA regulations work together to protect electrical workers,” said White. “There are several important concepts, such as ‘use of’ and ‘near’ that are frequently misunderstood by workers and their supervisors that will be discussed and clarified.”
His presentation will also include information on performing a hazard/risk analysis, PPE assessment, Energized Electrical Work Permits and other requirements for energized work.
On August 30, White will join Ken Mastrullo, safety and health manager for the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA, and Joseph Sheehan, principal electrical engineer for the NFPA, for a panel discussion on electrical safety issues. The moderated forum will provide conference participants the opportunity to ask questions about electrical safety, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, PPE and changes in the industry.
