Seattle-based Grid Computing Vendor Expands Product Line to Include Intel Macintoshes
(PRWEB) May 18, 2006 -- Brain Murmurs, Inc, a Seattle-based software research and development company, continues its commitment to support the Apple platform with the release of Universal Binary versions of its JIVA grid computing clients.
The JIVA Grid System has wide range of applications in many fields including bioinformatics, pharmaceuticals, energy, financial analysis, engineering, and animation.
Both the OS X Client Screen Saver and OS X Client Service can now run natively on either PowerPC- or Intel-based Mac computers.
"The performance enhancements this update brings to the Intel platform are amazing." said Garrett Kelly, senior engineer at Brain Murmurs. "The OS X Client used to run at about 230 MFLOPS (million floating point operations per second) on the Intel Core Duo. We've benchmarked the new package running at up to 497 MFLOPS. That's just about as fast as we've seen anything run on this platform, including optimized C code."
The JIVA Clients are available for immediate download online at http://brainmurmurs.com/products/jiva/downloads
The JIVA Grid Computing Framework is a low cost, secure volunteer computing system that allows businesses and other organizations to run computationally exhaustive work on their unused desktop computers and servers. It runs on a variety of platforms including Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, Sun Solaris, and Linux. JIVA features built-in support for the Visual Numerics JMSL Libraries.
Parties interested in developing applications for the JIVA framework or licensing the framework for their own use are invited to contact Brain Murmurs.
