In MCAD: Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks Growing While CATIA Falls Off
“ We see Inventor as a major player in the industry and believed our students deserved the chance to learn it. ”
(PRWEB) December 20, 2006 -- CADtalent is reporting that there is more demand for SolidWorks than any other MCAD package, with 33 percent of companies hiring in MCAD looking for SolidWorks talent, up 2 percent from October. Bob Braun, president of a SolidWorks User Group, comments that the demand for SolidWorks users considerably exceeds the supply, with many open positions taking months to fill.
Pro/ENGINEER remains entrenched as the second most in demand with 22 percent of hiring companies looking for Pro/ENGINEER users, followed by Solid Edge at 13 percent. CADtalent research found Autodesk Inventor had the most growth in November, up 3 percent from October to 11 percent of hiring companies. Autodesk spokesman Kevin Jordan adds that this growth extends to the university level with many top manufacturing programs now offering courses in Inventor. Professor Jordan Cox of Brigham Young University says, "We see Inventor as a major player in the industry and believed our students deserved the chance to learn it."
On the opposite side of the spectrum, demand for CATIA fell off sharply from 15 percent to 10 percent. Other movers include Solid Edge, up 1.5 percent to 13percent, and Unigraphics, down 1 percent to 9 percent.
Geographically, California still has the largest number of MCAD jobs, followed by Texas, Ohio and Washington. The highest density of CAD jobs is on the eastern seaboard.
CADtalent, the largest CAD specific job board, has a database of over 15,000 CAD jobs from across the web.
