Tulsa, Oklahoma (January 7, 2011)  -- EngATech Inc., a Tulsa-based design and manufacturing consulting firm, recently announced the addition of the Connex350 3-D printer to its lab.

The cutting-edge rapid prototyping technology is the first of its kind in Oklahoma, a designation EngATech often brings to its clients, big and small, according to Clay Slayton, EngATech founder.

The Connex350 3-D printer is a rapid prototyping system that jets photopolymer materials in ultrathin layers onto a build tray to form a preprogrammed object. The model is the first 3-D printer that allows use of materials of different hardness.

The Connex350, by Objet Geometries Ltd., is a game changer “because you can mix materials, which has never been an option before,” Slayton said.

“It allows us to cut time and cost from the production sequence,” he said. “That’s what the whole game is about: How can we help our client get their product to market quicker with fewer mistakes and at a higher quality than anyone else? This takes it to the next level.”

After just a couple of weeks, the versatility of EngATech’s new equipment has benefited the firm and its clients.

“Immediately we had new customers because we were able to test multiple hardnesses,” Slayton said. “It’s fun to have that deliverable that we’ve never had before. And the more we use it, the more ways we realize it can help our corporate clients and small entrepreneurs.”

By providing products and services for 3-D design, drafting, analysis, prototyping, product data management and documentation, EngATech delivers solutions that assist companies in increasing productivity and profitability. EngATech is the select distributor of Objet’s 3-D printing system in the five-state region.

“We call ourselves a product development and design firm,” Slayton said. “We can plug in to pretty much any area along the line, from creating a 3-D model of the initial concept to prototyping to making contact with people who can help with manufacturing, marketing or sales.”

Since 2000, EngATech has provided these services to a diversity of customers.

“We work with inventors who don’t have any design or prototyping capabilities,” Slayton said. “We also work with huge companies like Baker Hughes.”

EngATech currently employs eight in the Pierce Building downtown. «
